A different altitude

Space changes the pace.

The plateau rewards time. Long views, cool air, seasonal wildflowers and wildlife across open grasslands create a safari with a highland character all its own.

Ways to explore

On foot, by vehicle and by bicycle.

Day and night drives, guided walks, birding, mountain biking and fishing create varied days on the plateau. Guided walking safaris are for guests aged 18 and above. Fishing is available at Chelinda. An additional permit is required and can be purchased at Chelinda.

Wildlife

Nothing stands apart from the landscape.

Eland, roan and zebra move across the open grasslands, while reedbuck and bushbuck may appear along valleys and forest edges. Night drives reveal a more secretive side of the plateau. Serval, hyena, side-striped jackal, porcupine and leopard are present, but every sighting depends on the season, conditions and natural movement of wildlife.

When to visit

A landscape that never stays the same.

Rain returns colour to the plateau, bringing orchids, migratory birds and brilliant green grasslands. Clearer periods open long views, while the colder months can bring frost and make the evening fires part of the experience. Nyika rewards returning at different times rather than offering one single best season.
