Hands tending seedlings in a Root to Fruit nursery.

Root to Fruit

Planting, followed by survival.

Root to Fruit works through community nurseries, trained planters and continued monitoring so that tree planting is measured by what survives as well as what begins.

The model

From nursery to established tree.

Root to Fruit is a Malawian-European social enterprise built around local nurseries, registered Tree Clubs, free seedling distribution, training and follow-up monitoring. CAWS is a founding partner and funds the programme’s monthly operating budget.

The record

Progress measured over time.

Programme reporting records planting, survival, participation and a further group of distributed seedlings that continues to be monitored.

426,824Total trees planted since the programme began
≈375,000Recorded surviving
2,420Participating clubs and institutions
50,864Further seedlings distributed

The wider value

Local work with lasting roots.

Nurseries, planting and follow-up create practical participation and a clearer view of what successful restoration requires.
