Mvuu · August to November

Photography and the underground hide

Mvuu’s underground hide offers a low, quiet viewpoint beside a water source, giving guests time to sit, watch and photograph whatever comes into view. Your guide helps create photographic opportunities while keeping the experience calm and respectful. The hide is open from August to November and forms part of the activity programme for guests staying at Mvuu Camp and Mvuu Lodge; it is not sold as a separate excursion.

Plan around your interests

Several of our guides have extensive experience working with photographers, from guests developing their skills to professional photographers. We understand that photography often calls for a different pace: waiting for light, spending longer with a subject and considering the angle of a vehicle or boat. Share your interests before you arrive so we can plan guiding and arrangements around them. Private activities can be arranged when greater flexibility is needed.

Liwonde changes with the season. As the drier months progress, vegetation becomes more open and wildlife is increasingly drawn towards remaining water. The green season brings fresh growth, changing river levels and dramatic skies. Photography can therefore shape a wider stay beyond the hide’s opening season, with the choice of dates depending on the landscapes and light you hope to experience.
