Why Malawi?

Malawi is a warm and welcoming country that offers visitors wonderful scenery, fascinating parks and some of the friendliest people in Africa. A long and narrow landlocked country it covers more than 1000 kilometres from north to south while Lake Malawi, nearly 600km long and up to 80km wide, Africa’s third largest and most iconic body of fresh water, dominates the east of the country.

There is no country in all of Africa that has its geography so sculptured and determined by Africa’s Great Rift Valley. The country’s central spine is the western edge of this wondrous geographical feature and Lake Malawi and the Shire River form the valley floor. Towering mountains, lush, fertile valley floors and enormous crystal-clear lakes are hallmarks of much of the Rift Valley – and Malawi displays them all. Fertile soils are a feature of the Rift Valley and evidence of this is to be found everywhere in Malawi.

Endowed with many pristine wildernesses and wildlife hotspots, Malawi is a country that offers a vast array of safari activities and experiences that suit the interests and preferences of everyone. Whether it’s a rustic and relaxing escape in the wilderness or an adventure-packed getaway, there’s a never-ending variety of things to do and see across the country. Malawi is also one of the best places on the continent to immerse yourself in cultural activities and learn more about local customs and traditions.

A little about you

When would you like to join us?

Please leave the date fields blank if you do not have specific dates in mind. Please make us aware of the month you would like to travel in the Further Details box at the end.

Tell us about yourself

In a few words, please tell us about yourself and why you would like to volunteer for Central African Wilderness Safaris.

How it works

1

Choose the lifestyle level you wish to carbon compensate (travel, business, daily life).

2

Root to Fruit will calculate the level of carbon emitted during your chosen activities.

3

Based on your carbon emissions, Root to Fruit will calculate the number of trees needed to sequester the total emitted amount of carbon, thus offsetting your activities and leaving you carbon neutral.

4

You are invited to purchase the recommended number of trees, which will be raised in one of our dedicated tree nurseries in the northern region of Malawi.

5

Root to Fruit will take care of the rest! Your trees will be planted by trained community members and monitored throughout their growth, to ensure their survival.

6

Once planted, Root to Fruit will provide you with a certificate that includes the exact GPS coordinates of your trees. Check out the location of your trees online; or better yet, why not plan a trip to Malawi and enjoy this wonderful country while relaxing under the shade of your very own trees?

We look forward to
