Every CAWS adventure begins at the Lilongwe central office, where we have assembled a skilled team that are both knowledgeable and passionate about the country in which they work. Led by highly experienced Managing Director Chris Badger, this team forms the backbone of CAWS operations in Malawi.
Chris Badger – Managing Director
Chris has a wealth of experience of travelling in Africa. After first arriving on the continent back in 1980, running trans African trips from London to Johannesburg, he became fascinated with African wildlife. This led him to begin work as a game ranger at Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa.In 1983 he became an expedition guide based out of Johannesburg taking guests on trips through Namibia and Botswana. Following this he worked as a freelance safari guide working all over Northern Botswana, and into Zambia and Zimbabwe. After joining Wilderness Safaris in Botswana, Chris then moved to Malawi in 1987 where he began to lay the foundations for Central African Wilderness Safaris. Since then Chris, and his wife Pam, have gone on to build one of the most successful and respected wildlife safari operations in Malawi; accommodating 150 beds in four different lodges, and employing over 220 staff. Chris’ spare time is spent mastering his craft as a blues harmonica player, and playing in the infamous Lilongwe blues band, Rainmaker.
Jason Stone – Operations Manager
Jason has a diverse background, initially qualifying as a telecommunications engineer with the British Army and then working in a variety of different roles including organising camps for conservation research in Kafue National Park, managing a five star Skiing resort in France, and most recently as Bristol University’s Field Research Operations Manager organising logistics for several field research projects.

Sharmila Elias – Office Manager
Sharmila has 15 years’ experience in the travel industry, servicing outbound/inbound retail and tour operator travel arrangements in Cape Town and Johannesburg. She believes very strongly in having the right attitude and enthusiasm. Her forte lies in raising the bar in service excellence for new business, sustaining the level of service for business growth, team mentor-ship, and individual career development and growth (leadership and management).
Her leisure time is enjoyed camping with family and friends, writing and listening to poetry, and spending quality time with her six year old daughter, Jade.

Richard Carpenter – Marketing Manager
Richard has previously worked in marketing for five years at a wildlife park in Zambia, and comes to us after having recently completed a BSc in Conservation Biology, and MSc in Climate Change and Development. Richard has also worked extensively within both consumer and corporate sales in the UK, for companies including BUPA International and Allianz. He relishes the opportunity of working for a company where he can combine his marketing and sales skills with his passion for conservation and wildlife.

Nomalha Kankhwende – International Travel Consultant
Nomalha spent her early years in the UK before relocating to Malawi. Her personal experience has always been internationally focused – spending her high school years between Zimbabwe & the UK. After spending three years at the University of Birmingham and completing her bachelor’s degree in Economics (BSc), Nomalha worked in London for a year with AIESEC UK running an international exchange programme. In August 2009, she moved back to Malawi and volunteered at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre in a marketing position before joining Central African Wilderness Safaris in October 2010 as an International Travel Consultant.

Claudia Kelly – Travel Consultant, Mvuu Camp & Lodge reservations
Claudia originally started off as a professional fitness trainer about 11 years ago for 6 years in the UK. She built strong relationships with her clients as she excelled in her trained field of physiology, anatomy and exercise prescription. She then moved back to Malawi four years ago, where she worked for a family security company as part of the board of directors alongside her father. She is very outgoing, enjoys outdoor activities, keeping fit, spending quality time with her three sons, and travelling. Claudia is ready for her new career path and relishes the chance to be part of the Central African Wilderness Safaris Team.

Dolly Gama – Travel Consultant – Chintheche Inn & Chelinda Lodge & Camp reservations
Dolly moved to Malawi 18 months ago from Botswana and has 19 years extensive travel experience, managing airline regional offices such as British Airways Comair and South African Airways, tour operators and travel agencies in Botswana. She recently finished a Masters in International Relations.
