‘J&B – A memorable squeeze for three’ a Q&A with Kate

Kate Moore from the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust and her family, recently stayed at the J&B chalets at Mvuu Camp in Liwonde National Park. The chalets were refurbished last year and here’s what Kate had to say about her trip and stay at the chalets:

1. Tell us about your stay at the J&B Chalets at Mvuu Camp?

We live in Lilongwe and we used a work trip down to Liwonde as an excuse to spend a couple of nights at Mvuu. ‘Chalet 10’ at the end of the camp has, so far, been our favourite spot, because of the fever trees and vistas across the plain and the hills and because the chalet is nice and spacious so our 3-year-old son can run around. We were having such a fabulous time that we asked Richard if we could extend our stay by a night, but the only chalet available was ‘J&B 2’ which is only a double.  A squeeze for 3, but actually we slept very well and waking up to buffalo grazing right outside made the few kicks worth it. Now we know the magic of J&B we will be requesting it next time… even though our second child will have arrived by then!

2. What was your favourite part about your stay there?

The renovations are so very well done, nice little touches like the décor, the arched door and the iron finishings really make it look good.

In general, the Mvuu staff are so friendly and very accommodating, especially with kids.  And despite being the end of the rains (so a lot of the wildlife had dispersed) we also had some great game viewing – Mathews, our awesome guide, managed to find a huge herd of elephants and, best of all, we enjoyed a cheetah sighting too!

3. Did you enjoy the chalet’s surroundings, tell us more about this?

The chalets had just stunning views across the river, plain and the hills, very peaceful, and tons of wildlife right in front of us, including buffalo, and lots of impala and waterbuck too. Waking up for sunrise was well worth it.

4. Tell us a little about your thoughts on the facilities and overall look and feel of the chalets, do you feel their well-suited for families/groups etc?

They are great for groups and families as you can hire out both chalets and there’s a little communal area in the middle.  But they are also equally perfect for couples as the chalets are just far away enough from each other that you don’t disturb each other.

About the J&B Chalets:

Last year, the J&B Chalets near Mvuu Camp got a complete makeover with new décor, rebuilt bathrooms as well as a new dining area and lounge between the two chalets. The décor was designed to tell the story of the chalets and how they have served as a base for guides, officials and conservationists who were involved with the black rhino conservation project in Liwonde. The chalets serve as the ideal spot for small groups and families who want a totally private experience at Mvuu Camp.
