Paul and Janet Kilham – General Managers, Chelinda Camp and Lodge
Paul and Janet’s backgrounds although diverse, compliment the role at Chelinda perfectly, making them ideal candidates for the position. Paul, a fully qualified FUGASA guide, has been working as a freelance guide at the Umfolozi Game Reserve and I Simangaliso Wetland Park since 2009. Previous to this Paul spent a number of years working for a major food distributor where he was responsible for coordinating the logistical operations for one of Malawi’s leading supermarkets. Following this he moved into the hospitality industry where he managed a series of safari lodges before undertaking his FUGASA training.
Janet’s background has seen her work as a credit controller for one of southern Africa’s leading supermarket chains and as a bursar at a school. Following this she then managed a five star guesthouse in St Lucia, South Africa before making the move to CAWS. Janet is keen to bring the experience she gained while working in South Africa to Chelinda,” I loved working in the guesthouse. It was really fun meeting people, chatting to them, and booking tours” says Janet. I’m really keen to bring some individual touches to Chelinda so that it feels really homely. We really want to try to enlighten our guests about Nyika and its incredible biodiversity because it’s just such an amazing place; and of course give our guests some nice wholesome food, lovely red wine and cosy log fires to create that perfect atmosphere during the cold Nyika evenings!” Paul also shares this same vision; “we love to interact and make people laugh. We want people to know they can talk to us – we will have a glass of wine with you, have a meal with you, and make you feel like it’s your home from home. That’s what we would like to bring to Chelinda. We believe we have the skills and a style to really make Chelinda an outstanding place to visit.”
