Each year, the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust conducts a series of wildlife quiz events in celebration of World Environment Day. This year’s quiz featured contestants from 13 local schools, resulting in a tight competition that culminated in a final round, which was held at the Wildlife Centre on 5th June, 2017.
Of the 13 schools, Lilongwe Private School emerged as the winner of the final championship round and won the grand prize as well as an additional prize, which were sponsored by Central African Wilderness Safaris. The prizes included an overnight stay for 20 students at Mvuu Camp, as well as a boat safari and a hearty lunch at Mvuu for another batch of students.
The Wildlife Quiz is one of the many environmental education programmes organized and implemented by the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of conservation issues, so as to inspire the younger generation to take pride and be responsible for their natural heritage. The competition targets thousands of secondary school learners within the Lilongwe district, and hopes to expand into other districts and regions in the near future.
