Back to the bush with the Shire River Trail in Liwonde National Park

We recently conducted the Shire River Trail for a group of guests at Mvuu Camp and Lodge. The trail is a three-day trek spanning across 30kms of scenic floodplains and Miombo woodlands. Starting at the foot of the Nafiulu Hills, leading up to a 23km hike, and ending with a 7km walk along the banks of the Shire River, the trail takes you into the heart of the bush in Liwonde National Park.

Why should you consider adding a trail to your safari: A walking trail is ideal for enjoying the smaller, more subtle wildlife interactions and sightings that one might miss on a traditional game drive.

Setting up camp: For the first night of the trail, we set up camp at Njobvu and then spent the second night at Chipembere.

Tents, an eco-loo and bucket shower were set up and warm meals were prepared and served on site.  Our group was able to stop at various locations en-route and learn more about the tracks, habitats, birds and wildlife that they encountered on their way.
